Puffy eyes is a condition wherein your eyes are swelling in your upper or lower eyelids.

This condition is more common as you age because the process of aging weakens the tissues around your eyes.

Swelling of the eyes or puffiness of the eyes are usually just an uncomfortable sensation that will eventually go away on its own.

However, if this lasts longer than usual, it might lead to some damage on your eyes.

Any swelling that lasts more than 2 days shall be a sign for a consultation with a medical professional because it might result in blindness when prolonged.

Having bags under the eyes are usually not alarming but rather just a cosmetic concern and rarely a sign of a serious condition.

Puffiness of the eyes and dark circles under the eyes are caused by several reasons such as allergies, stress, hereditary, and eye fatigue.

Swelling around the eyes may also be caused by excessive accumulation fluids in the surrounding skin tissue.

Thus, puffy eyes’ severity depends on its underlying cause.

An example such as the Graves disease or thyroid eye cancer, can develop swelling of tissue and muscles surrounding the eye, as well as bulging eyes.

Eye allergies, allergens, and food allergies can also cause puffiness of the eyes.

Whenever you get an allergic reaction, your body will eventually release a chemical called histamine which can cause fluid to leak from the blood vessels even around your eyes.

Thus puffy eyes are generally a common condition affecting almost everyone. Remember the last time you cried a river?
