The term “Gout,” is a condition caused by the accumulation or buildup of uric acid in your body. This is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis.

If you have gout, you’ll probably feel your joints and feet being swollen and in pain. This condition usually starts affecting your feet. A gout can actually affect anyone and isa form of arthritis that affects your joints.

It is characterized by sudden intense pain or so the so called, gout attack, swelling, redness, and tenderness in the joints. This condition can attack anytime, even while you’re asleep. It creates a sensation as if your toe is on fire.

The uric acid is actually a waste product from the breakdown of purines, which are natural occuring substances found in foods such as mushrooms, liver, anchovies, mackerel, and beans.

The body normally cleans out the uric acid through urine, but if you have high levels of uric acid, it will eventually builup. The high levels of uric acid in the body converts to acid into crystals, which are the ones that accumulate in the joints and tissues.

Crystals from uric acid are the main culprit that causes painful gout symptoms.

Foods that are high in purine are a big factor for gout because purines found in food, when broken down by your body will convert into uric acid.

Although foods that contain purine aren’t all bad, it might trigger your gout.

Certain foods, medicines, and conditions can set off gout symptoms. You may need to avoid or limit foods, medicines, and drinks which are high in purines:

  • Red meat like pork and veal

  • Organ meats such as liver, kidneys from animals

  • Fish such as cod, scallops, mussels, and salmon

  • Alcoholic beverages

  • Sodas that have high sugar content

  • Blood pressure medication such as angiotensin II and beta blockers

This condition is mostly common in men which are between the ages of 40 to 50. But can also happen in your early twenties.

The painful sensation is commonly stronger in the big toe than in any part of your foot. Gout affects the ankles, knees, wrists, feet, and elbows.

The painful sensation, also known as a gout attack can last for days and sometimes even longer. If gout is left untreated, it can cause permanent damage on the joints and other parts.

Redness and inflammation are the most common sign of gout. The affected joint becomes swollen, tender, warm and red.

As gout progresses, you may not be able to move your joints as you normally can. The symptoms of gout can affect your daily routine especially jobs that need physical strength.

Gout can happen by either having a family history of gout, being overweight, kidney problems, lead exposure, food rich in purine, or side effects from certain medications.

Gout is also linked with other conditions. This means that gout isn’t just plain gout, because it can trigger more serious conditions.

There are risks in prolonging the condition of gout such as having kidney, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases.

This condition can be very painful and affect your daily routine. But don’t worry, there are several natural remedies for gout.
